Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence Program Outline Announced – FEMALE ATHLETES

The Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence program begins Sunday, October 19th and runs for 27 weeks. Being a part of this program will give you the opportunity to train and excel in the sport of volleyball, with the focus of developing your skills and to prepare you for university/college/national team level. Assisting with this process of development will be our coaching staff full of NCCP certified coaches. Pakmen’s new full-time head coach Orest Stanko and Ryerson University Head Coach Dustin Reid will be heavily involved in the program.

Stanko coached the most successful men’s volleyball program in the history of Ontario University Athletics (OUA); several athletes advanced to play for Team Canada, indoor and beach. His tenure resulted in 13 OUA Championships, 14 appearances at the CIS National Championships and being named the OUA Coach of the Year, an astonishing seven times.

Dustin Reid is a former Canadian national team player, who represented Canada in more than 120 international matches including two World cups, the 1994 World Championship and two Olympic qualification attempts (1996 and 2000). As a coach, Reid coached professionally in Switzerland winning four different national championships including leading the MTV Naefels VC professional men’s team to back-to-back Swiss League championships in 2003 and 2004. As the head coach of Ryerson University’s Women’s team, he has built the strongest program in the school’s history.

Practices will be run with a very low coach to player ratio (1:8 for stream 1 & 2, 1:6 for stream 3), this will give athletes the opportunity to build strong relationships with the coaches for direct and quality feedback. In addition to the low ratio this will allow for position specific training as well as personalized training plans. The VCCE Mississauga program is designed to give athletes an intense and personalized training experience.

On court training sessions will be followed by strength and conditioning. This is a great opportunity for players to get stronger, move faster, and develop core strength while the coaches monitor your improvements. The VCCE curriculum will include nutrition workshops as well as character building and leadership activities for all athletes. VCCE coaches will lead seminar style sessions on an intermittent basis where athletes will engage in open discussions, take part in group activities and practice debriefs, that will ultimately prepare them for their future endeavours and aspirations in volleyball.
