Safety Protocols at Summer Camp

Canlan Sportsplex’s staff will be supervising check-in each morning. They will ask health screening questions to ensure no one with COVID symptoms enters the building and collect data to enable contact tracing. Hand sanitizing stations will be placed around the venue and athletes and staff will wash their hands in between breaks. Coaches will wear masks and athletes will also have to wear masks when they are off the court (e.g. breaks). Physical distancing of 2m will be enforced during these times. Three groups will be made at the start (maximum 14 per court) and those athletes will remain together with their own equipment. Volleyballs will be sanitized regularly. Spectators will not be allowed in the building to ensure smaller numbers. Please check the COVID safety plan for more information.

Development League

The Development League teaches the fundamentals of volleyball through a mix of instruction, drills, and competition. The Development League caters to participants in the following divisions: Grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.

Volleyball is a great non contact team sport that encourages kids to make friends, develop skills, problem solve and enhance their physical literacy. Our programs will give your child the skills and confidence to enjoy volleyball for life.

The Grade 3-4 Development League is designed for players who have been a part of the Spikes Learn to Play program for numerous sessions and have achieved their Silver Certificate Medal.

Players who want to play in the Grade 5-6 Development League should have already played in our Spikes Learn to Play program and received a Silver Certificate Medal. Or, the child can be recommended for the program by the Spikes coach when receiving their ‘What’s Next’ report on the last class.

The Grade 7-8 Development League is an introductory volleyball league for middle school students who already have some experience playing volleyball e.g. Pakmen Technique Tutoring or Spikes for one or two seasons.

The Grade 9-12 Development League is an introductory volleyball league for high school students. They should have played in one of our programs before, or have some experience playing volleyball. If they are new to volleyball, we recommend they enroll in Technique Tutoring for one season, then move up to the Development League.

Each weekly session includes instruction and drills where players learn and practice serving, passing, and hitting, and how to play defense within a team system.

By the end of the program, players will be more skilled individually and will be better team players.

All players receive an official Pakmen T-shirt and participate in a championship with medals and prizes on the last day.
