Overview

Spikes is a one hour learn to play volleyball  program for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 years. Spikes is focused on providing a supportive, non-competitive environment, where learning volleyball skills is a whole lot of fun! This program is the best choice for young athletes looking to try a new sport! No previous experience is required! The program is between eight to ten weeks long and everyone plays equally. Every participant will receive a Spikes t-shirt.

The Spikes programs are taught by current and former adult Pakmen players. Our coaches know how to teach the basics while making sure participants have a great time! Spikes sessions are high energy with lots of activity and moving around! Participants will learn the basics of volleyball and develop the right habits to excel in the sport.

Youth who participate in this learn to play volleybal program will learn the basics of the game: forearm and overhead passing, hitting, serving, and basic team play. Depending on age, game play is modified to ensure that every athlete is involved with each play, ensuring maximum learning. Also, the game environment is modified to increase early success, improving the enjoyability and fun factor for all involved. This may include initially permitting the athlete to catch the first contact to increase rally times. The primary goal of this learn to play volleyball program  is to introduce young athletes to the sport and teach the FUNdamentals!

Typical Session

A typical Spikes learn to play volleyball  session will begin with approximately five minutes of what we call the "Pakmen Warmup". This dynamic warmup is designed to prevent injury and increase flexibility. After this warm-up the players will be taught a skill such as passing, then practice it with fun games (drills). Each session will end with some game play, but it will likely be modified to half-court games and a coach joining in to help their teams get everyone involved.

FAQs

I am registered for Spikes. Should I expect more information?

If you registered online, you will automatically receive a confirmation email with a Fitness Tax Credit receipt at the bottom. You will not receive anything else. Your child's name was automatically added to our class list. If you registered by mail, we will either email or mail you a confirmation and Fitness Tax Credit.

Does my son/daughter need to bring anything to Spikes?

S/he needs to wear shorts or track pants, running shoes and a shirt. We will provide a free shirt at the check-in on the first day. Kneepads are optional. All our locations have plenty of water fountains. We ask that you please leave your valuables at home. There is no safe place to store them during the program and we are not responsible for your valuables. Besides, you'll be too busy with other activities to be using them!

How will the teams be arranged?

Teams will be chosen by the coach. Don't be alarmed if your son/daughter does not know anyone prior to registering. Many people will be in the same situation. If you have a friend in the program, you can be paired with each other.

How often do you take breaks?

Coaches will be extremely flexible. There are plenty of water fountains. Our coaches are former players that understand how water breaks are necessary.
