17U Girls win back-to-back Provincial Titles
Last week our 17U Girls team earned their 2nd Provincial Championship in consecutive years. The team led by head coach Kadeem Clarke has had a fantastic season leading up to the Ontario Championships. In February they took home a gold medal at the 17U Grand Prix competing against the top 8 teams in Ontario. They also tested their skillset by earning a bronze medal playing a year up in the 18U Grand Prix
The girls entered Day 3 of OC’s with a 5-1 record leading into the Quarterfinals where they defeated KW Preds in straight sets (25-11, 25-18). They then defeated Storm Avalanche in the semi finals (22-25, 25-18, 15-12. In the finals they defeated Defensa in straight sets (25-18, 25-6) to earn the championship.
This team has solidified themselves as the top volleyball team in Ontario which will give them confidence going into the National Championships in May.
Coach Kadeem shared some of his thoughts on the big win.
“I’m incredibly proud of the way my team has played this season, we’ve gone through a lot of adversity but I’m proud of how the girls banded together and played as a team to win 2 major championships this season. We’re really excited to play in the 18U Ontario Championships this weekend, it will give us a great challenge and help prepare us for Nationals”
Club President Kelly Smith shared some words in regards to Kadeem.
“Kadeem has truly solidified himself as a top coach in Ontario, his patience and dedication as a coach is having a direct reflection on the performances of his team”.
The girls will be travelling to Edmonton in May to compete in the National Championships.
Some special mentions go to Ava Mann(Outside hitter) & Lauren Pastor(Setter) who were named OVA All-stars going into Provincials.
