3 Best Steps to Learn Volleyball

  • December 30, 2019

You’ve thought about it for a while – I should get my kid enrolled in volleyball so they can learn a sport they can enjoy for life.

Volleyball is a game like no other. It is relatively safe to play, it provides great exercise, it encourages teamwork, co-operation, communication, and goal-setting, among many other things. Studies have shown that the worst way to encourage kids to be active is to treat exercise as punishment and make them run or do push-ups. A far better way to encourage lifelong fitness is to teach them a skill or game that is fun to play. Volleyball is fun and best of all, you can play it for life – as witnessed by the fact that US Nationals has an 80 years of age and over category.

What is the right age to begin? Do they require any basic skills; what are the prerequisites?

We recommend you begin your child in volleyball as early as 6 years old. Starting early gives them the advantage of having several years of playing under their belt when it comes to trying out for the school team in elementary school. But it’s never too old to begin.
There are no basic skills or prerequisites to start because we offer different programs ranging from no experience to expert level. Players with no experience will become surprisingly skillful in a matter of weeks. Also, because volleyball is a game for life, we often hear from senior high school students who contact us saying they have never played, but would love to learn how. We even hear from adults anywhere from 19 yr to 60 yrs plus who want to learn the game.

In summary, you are never too old to begin and because we offer programs for all ages and skill levels, there are no basic skills of prerequisites required.
