An amazing volleyball pair

The next generation of Pakmen volleyball stars have just checked in; and they’re here to stay. Harnoor Grewal and Pranshu Patal have taken the OVA by storm this summer, having won their first two u14 tournaments in convincing fashion.

The duo is coming off a strong fifth place finish after playing a year up. They lost a tight three-set match in the quarter finals, to the eventual tournament winners.

Not bad for a team that came together by chance.

“Right before provincials last year, my [original] partner went away for vacation. Luckily Pranshu was in a similar position and needed a partner,” said Grewal. “We clicked right away, and ended up medalling at our last two tournaments. From then on, we decided to stay as a team.”

The team credits much of their success to their ability to focus on the fundamentals.

Staying consistent with the Pakmen approach, the team puts extra effort into their passing and serving. “We mainly try to focus on keeping our serves tough, and consistent. Along with giving our partner a great pass every time.”, said Patel. “If we focus on those two things, everything else will follow.”

“They have a unique ability to not let pressure get to them,” said coach Kelly Smith. “Volleyball is a game of ups and downs, but these kids play at a high level at all times.”

In addition, Smith spoke on their ability to adapt their style of play based on their opponent.

“Because of their strong background in fundamentals, they are able to make small adjustments without sacrificing their overall play.”

Grewal and Pranshu currently sport a 32-3 record, and show no signs of slowing down.
