Pakmen coach Matthew Harris has just been named Co-Head Coach of the Team Canada Youth Team

Pakmen is pleased to announce that our u17 boys head coach, Matthew Harris, has just been named the co-head coach for the Volleyball Canada, Youth National Team 2018.

Matthew Harris is coming off a triumphant summer as the head coach of Ontario’s Canada Games team where he lead Team Ontario to its first Gold medal at the Canada Games since 1993. He is also the assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team at Ryerson University.

“I am very honoured to be selected to coach in the Team Canada system. Our nation has some very talented up and coming athletes from coast to coast and I am very excited to get the opportunity to work with them. I am also very fortunate to be able to work with some of Canada’s best up and coming coaches.” Harris said.

Club President Kelly Smith shared some sentiment towards this achievement. “Pakmen is incredibly fortunate to have a coach like Matt who has so much experience. It has been a great opportunity for our athletes to learn from a coach who not only has a lot of club coaching experience, but also at a university and international level. Matthew is definitely deserving of this position, I have no doubt he will do a fantastic job leading this group of young athletes to the next level.”

The purpose of the Youth & Select (m) National Team program is to identify, select and train a group of athletes who have future Senior National Team potential. The programs are also designed to identify an athlete pool to continue to develop through advanced training opportunities in future programs.

The Youth team will consist of two teams of 14 players (28 athletes in total) from 16U-18U age athletes from all over Canada.

They will train at Mount Royal University in Calgary from July 13th-24th and compete in the US HP Tournament from July 24th-28th in Tulsa Oklahoma
